Most states and provinces require a passing score on the VTNE as one criterion for credentialing. It is used to evaluate entry-level veterinary technicians' competency to practice and to be credentialed. The VTNE is administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. The candidate’s score on the VTNE is based on responses to 150 questions. The passing score of the VTNE is either 75 or 425, depending on your jurisdiction. Depending on your jurisdiction, the scores can range from 0-100 or 200-800. The score is automatically reported to the state the candidate indicated on his or her application and needs no further action on her part. This milestone is further proof of the quality of the program." The average passing rate of the VTNE for the past three years, according to the AAVSB, is 71. The VTNE is evaluated using a scaled score, and the passing score for the VTNE is 425 or, 75, depending on the method the individual state uses.
